IcomTech Crypto Ponzi Promoter Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison
Magdaleno Mendoza, a senior promoter in the defunct crypto-mining and trading firm IcomTech, was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison for orchestrating a Ponzi scheme targeting Spanish-speaking investors. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York confirmed Mendoza’s role in the scheme, which collapsed in 2019 after promising guaranteed returns from crypto trading and mining.
Prosecutors revealed Mendoza siphoned hundreds of thousands for personal use while operating the MLM-style fraud. The court ordered $789,218.94 in restitution and forfeiture of $1.5 million in assets, including his California residence. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton emphasized Mendoza exploited vulnerable investors, leaving them with 'only losses.'
